SWARMs
The SWARMs project aims to design and develop and implement a new generation of integrated platform to facilitate cooperating networked AUVs/ROVs, in order to increase the autonomy of AUVs/ROVs in the context of carrying out unnamed sophisticated industrial offshore activities, in particular, maintenance assistance, and support to sub-sea construction systems.

SWARMs entrusts the platform with creating, monitoring, controlling and managing the mission; to (re)distribute, (re)configure, (re)synchronize and (re)plan the activities autonomously in real-time. The platform will allow exporting the functionalities of the different AUVs/ROVs as services, which can be composed and orchestrated in order to create new particular services in terms of mission needs. This enables AUVs/ROVs, from different manufacturers, to share (integrate) functionalities (robot features) in a transparent way, independently both from the physical location and the operations to be carried out in the industrial process. Thereby creating and deploying control & management services and hardware to assist the task involved in the missions.
- Develop an environment characterization and coordination system;
- Design the necessary infracstructure for monitoring and controlling underwater industrial opretaions;
- Apply communications concepts ensuring smooth functioning while also exploring new, innovative technologies;
- Define and apply a methodology for designing new operations;
- Test, validate and demonstrate the SWARMs platform solution in relevant environmentally controlled scenarios.
